Courses in
Lowenfeld Projective Play Therapy
Introduction
Introductory Foundation Courses
Programme for 2009
Introduction
Lowenfeld Projective Play Therapy Courses aim to
equip practitioners with both the clinical skills
necessary to use the non-verbal techniques devised
by Dr Margaret Lowenfeld and with an understanding
of her theories which underpin her approach.
Through her observation of children's play Lowenfeld
developed original projective play techniques, which
facilitate effective communication between children,
adolescents and their therapists. Subsequently,
these techniques have been extended to families,
to children with speech and language difficulties,
to those who are learning disabled or deaf.
Lowenfeld Projective Play Therapy developed from
her view that each individual, whether child or
adult, has a singular understanding of the world
based upon their constitution and personal experience.
Lowenfeld's use of non-verbal techniques allows
the expression of the multidimensional nature of
this personal experience, and of thoughts and feelings
which are not accessible through words. This communication
forms the basis for the therapeutic process whereby
children, adolescents and families are enabled to
effect change.

Introductory Foundation
Courses
The aims of the Foundation course in Lowenfeld
Projective Play Therapy are to:
- enable participants to appreciate the theoretical
underpinnings of Lowenfeld Projective Play Therapy
- enable participants to understand Lowenfeld
Projective Play Therapy through experiential
work* using Worlds and Mosaics
- enable participants to consider how they might
incorporate Lowenfeld techniques into their own
workplace.
- In experiential work each participant uses
their own life experience as material for making
Lowenfeld Worlds and Mosaics. Since the objective
is training in Lowenfeld ‘s techniques
and not therapy, participants need share only
as little or as much as they feel comfortable
with.
