lowenfeld archiveS AND EXHIBITS
After recent reorganisation, material relevant
to the life of the Paediatrician and Child Psychiatrist,
Dr Margaret Lowenfeld, 1890-1973 and her work at
the Institute of Child Psychology (much of which
is relevant also to the general history of child
psychiatry, paediatrics, child and adolescent psychotherapy,
and child guidance) is now to be found in three
locations:
1. The Wellcome Library for
the History and Understanding of Medicine

Lowenfeld’s
papers and correspondence together with material from
her Institute of Child Psychology such as photographs,
clinical records, and research materials are housed
here and have been incorporated into the Library’s
indexing system. To access on line search reference

2. The Science Museum
Exhibition

Displays
of objects and materials related to Lowenfeld are
to be found in the main medical gallery, ‘The
Science and Art of Medicine’, and also in
a small exhibition about psychology entitled ‘Mind
your Head’.
All the objects and materials (toys,
sandtrays, mosaic sets, etc) preserved from Lowenfeld’s
Institute of Child Psychology by the Trust have
been acquired by the Science Museum (accession
nos. 2009-14 t0 2009-38).

The Library from
Lowenfeld’s Institute of
Child Psychology is housed in the Centre for Family
Research. The Trust has continued to support acquisitions
to keep it up to date. The library stock can be
